I'd feel a lot better about a new "transportation" plan if it involved something more than concrete highways and over-taxing motorists to subsidize the trucking industry. How about instead of ever-widening the Turnpike, we look at commuter rail on the KC-Topeka corridor to take cars OFF the highway so it doesn't need to be widened? Or, how about investing in bike lanes and better sidewalks in urban cores to cut pollution and promote health? Rebuilding short-line rails to get grain trucks off the road? Or an Amtrak line for KC-Topeka-Wichita?

My thoughts are with these workers at this difficult. Never a good time to go out. If they do I know labor will pitch together to support them. I hope for all parties there is a speedy and satisfying resolution.

Thanks again for your tireless work on this issue. The people of Kansas are better off because of people like you! I'm so glad to see work done via social networking sites and I'm especially glad to see The Capital-Journal recognizing how vital these tools are!

Great article Jake! It is amazing the amount of information you were able to put out via social networks. It was apparent the amount of people who's interest were sparked who normally would not have known about the struggle. Thanks to you and Heidi's hard work this marks one of the first moves forward labor has taken in the Kansas Legislature in many years. We will not give up the fight. Lets take a collective breath and then set our sights on next year.
